RC Darlin was born sometime after 1870, but no one knows for sure exactly when it was. Since then, fables of a tall, hairy, banjo-clad, gender nondescript musician have traveled from farm, to train yard, and back into urban spaces. There are reports that RC may have at times shared a cell block with Mr. Cash in Mississippi, stood in line at a bank with Ms. Parton as she confronted a beauty beyond compare with flaming locks of auburn hair, and rode shotgun while Mr. Prine whined about flag decals. Whether these tall tales are true or not matters less than the music created in those moments.

What we know for sure is in all those long or short years, RC Darlin has never released an album of their own…until now. “Brambles” follows the adventures of a queer, sad little red winged blackbird by plane, train, and boot. Country music legend? Maybe. Country music lover? Damn straight.
